What exactly is BBA (Bachelor of Business Administration)?
Started as a foundation course for those wanting to pursue a Master’s in Business Administration, BBA tends to be a bit of a halfway house between BCom and MBA. You can think of it as a more generalised form of MBA, or a more professional form of B.Com. Your average BBA is spread out over three years, which are split into six semesters. A few institutes also offer four-year-long Honours programmes. BBA programmes generally have the following subjects in various permutations and combinations:
- Business Economics
- Company Law
- System Management
- Financial Accounting
- Marketing Management
- Project Planning
- Insurance
- Operation Research
- Business Mathematics
- Business Information Management
- Computer Application
- Management Accounting
- Human Resource Management
- Entrepreneurship Management
- Business Organization
BBA programmes also tend to be more expensive than B.Com, and come with value additions such as industry guided curricula, professional projects, projects that you can put on your resume as work experience, and targeted training for an MBA. Lately, institutes also offer specialisations in BBA, such as Finance, Marketing, Travel and even LLB, similar to what you would find with MBAs.
A little bit of research will reveal that BBA programmes are very similar to MBA ones. They are also slowly becoming just as specialised, getting you that much closer to being job-ready within that much lesser time.
